The Jesse V. Howell papers 1930-1948.

The papers of Jesse V. Howell, petroleum geologist, appear to be photostats of a compilation of research/reference notes, autograph and typescript transcriptions of excerpts from various sources, and draft fragments of a technical paper Howell may have written in the 1930s pertaining to petroleum engineering practices and geologic theories in the early days of the petroleum industry. Also included is correspondence between Howell and colleagues dating from 1931 to 1948.

Jesse V. Howell was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, in 1891, the only child of William J. and Jennie Esther Craft Howell. He graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa, in 1912 and a M.S. in geology from the University of Iowa in 1915. Howell worked as a geologist for several companies from 1916-1918 and received his Ph. D. in geology from the University of Iowa in 1922.
